Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain

I'm attending a conference held at the Ritz soon but the rates are shocking. Are there any cheaper hotels nearby? How far is this hotel from the decent bars in town?

Cheers, Millhouse.

I thought you might be writing to tell us all that it's on fire and surrounded by a screaming mob. I used to stay at Gulf Gate or Bahrain International, both as cheap as chips and centrally located.

Try the Elite places (Elite Residences, Elite Tower, etc). Can't remember which ones are nearby but some are.

Ritz-Carlton bound to be pricey - I rate it as a better hotel than, say, the Jumeirah Beach Hotel.

Thanks everyone. Looking online they all seem pretty near the Ritz. I'm going to try for the Elite and then Diggers as a fall back.

I'm transiting through Bahrain this afternoon. They better not have disrupted supplies to the Caribou Coffee outlet by gate 17 as I don't do Costa.

Trust me. Your friend has probably been stuck indoors. Been watching the TV coverage. Very nasty with over one hundred injured. Up to fifty armoured vehicles ready to move in if the protesters don't disperse.

Turns out he got out on wed night. I imagine that today will be the real test though.

Eh? I've been out in the evenings here. Not been able to hit up diggers this week, but I got a decent local.

In un-related news, I love this description of diggers on the internet..: 'Digger's, Delmont Hotel. Australian-themed sports pub in the CBD. Popular with single male expats'

I break that demographic.

So the deaths and TV coverage are simply a figment of our imagination? Mind you, on a similar theme, if they decided to hold mass protests here in Dubai, I wonder where they would choose? Al Nassir Square perhaps? If so, 95% of western expats probably wouldn't be aware that anything was going on.

what is your sample size?

I'm well aware of much criticism and discontent. That said, most have far too much vested interest in maintaining the status quo than changing anything.
