My gripe is the fact that I have been relocated but medically worse off as my medical costs have gone up since I arrived. I think some of you possibly expect a lot less as a relocated expatriate employee than me...

Then why on earth did you take the job? If you didn't negotiate your package well enough it's hardly the co's fault!! Eg.. with mine, the company pays what the insurance co doesn't... eg dental etc etc. And if I want to go to a docs that isn't on the insurance co's list, the company pay it back thru expenses instead. Thus, I don't experience a drop in standard for my healthcare thru being here.

it does at Medcare... and the American hospital is much the same. Anyhow, it's academic, as I'll be on the NHS, but still, my friend's just had a c-section. No wonder Medcare has a 45% c-section rate! Lol! I'm just too cynical.

I had a C section as well - 5000 dhs if I remember rightly, and 2500 for ante natal.

Everyone I know who delivered at the American Hospital had a C-section, why is that?

The best way is to just squat down and push the little buggers out! I had my fourth at home - no cost involvement there

yeah, I want a home-birth this time round... with or without midwife. I don't think I stand a chance of getting to the hosptial in time anyway!

At my first antenatal here they went through my history and asked if I was induced when I had my first at 40+3 - er, no! That and being obsessed about tests, scans and predicting baby weight... honestly, they think a 9lb baby would be too difficult to push out!

It's not like we've been doing it like that for millennia, is it?!

As was ours... (changed recently)... it was negotiated that the co. would pay the difference back thru expenses so didn't experience a change in what was originally delivered.

Self employed and been paying BUPA for 20+ years for the family for coverage for everything anywhere except USA.

Painfully expensive and I keep hoping for the odd broken limb just for some payback.

b) have NO coverage for dental except emergencies
c) have NO coverage for optical
d) have reduced worldwide coverage limited to the UAE or my own country

previously none of this was in effect. Back home I had dental, optical, free specialist treatment and a very small surcharge for GP with a zero charge for follow-up visits.

My company has reduced my benefits due to the need to "cut costs".

my lifestyle is a joke in this country already. How much more should I sacrifice to help the emirati's build their sandpit?
This is exactly the sort of cover Mubadala offered me as standard including no prexisting condition cover. I straight up told them they had to be joking. They said "yes its not good but trust us we will get better coverage soon".

Just like the "trust us not to sack you and give you 3 months pay when you have quit your job back home, relocated, set up a house and paid 12 months rent!!!!. 12 months notice or forget it. "No 3 months is standard in the gulf". Jailing for typical dubai shadiness is optional though.

Ive since been told that the poor cover is nothing to worry about compared to chaos from all hours hospital visits and generally poor pain management after operations.

If that is part of the expat adventure then Ill stay couch potato thanks - life aint THAT bad here.
