QE2 to be scrapped
 
Heard a rumour that due to the economic downturn, the QE2 will be either sold on, or scrapped due to hideous maintenance costs.

Anyone heard the same or shall I put it in the "palm is sinking, Sheikh Mo has been shot" bin ???????

Read somewhere this morning but cannot remember where, Nakheel are denying it so its probably true.

apparently not, DH knows one of the PM's on this and he is under the impression it will go ahead, I can't see it myself.

scrap values are low at the moment too so it wouldnt get them much back

to be honest, I can't see it going ahead... I mean, the plan was/is to completely gut and refurbish it - that's going to cost millions - AND the overheads while it's just sitting there can't be negligeable either.

I'm not convinced it will be canceled - too much loss of face.

Maybe it will spring a leak and sink?

Cleaning it up first could cost a bit though.
