Qatar win 2019 AFC
Pretty impressive win considering the circumstances. All the more impressive watching the UAE officals handing over the medals.
Only one goal scored against them during the full tournament. One player scoring the most amount of goals ever in a single AFC tournament..

Nice! Winning it on Emirati soil as well!! LOL
At least your typical Ingurland fan can't say "what have Qatar ever won?!" at the 2022 World Cup.

Good to see the Qataris showing they can do something, other than shop and eat. Feb 12 is Qatar Sports day, Guess they will make plenty out of it this year.

On a serious note, their investment in the Aspire Academy has paid off handsomely - their current coach Felix Sanchez (ex barcelona youth coach) joined the Aspire Academy in 2006.
Will be interesting to see how they fare in the South American Championship (Copa America) later in the year, where they are one of the 'special invitation' teams along with Japan.

There's been some serious cash invested into Aspire over the years . The facilities are incredible to be honest and I've been told they have some really decent talent which has been brought through.

Yep, saw that. I must have watched a different game.... The celebrations here were bigger than national day and continued into the small hours yesterday after the team returned home.

Surely they all are. I mean, I thought you had to be a citizen of a country in order to be eligible to play. Only coaches can be foreigners. Or is that wrong?

Ofcourse, but I mean how many are actually qatari born nationals with qatari parents and how many are 'bought'?
I genuinely dont know the answer to that

All of the 6 nations rugby teams have players who qualified through residency, they can also qualify through parents/grandparents having never lived in the country. Very common in cricket too
I believe the UAE brought in a similar residency law last year, initially for cricket I think.

1.5 hours on Friday night to get from the Hilton to The Pearl. You'd walk it far quicker. Streets were jammed, flags and firearms out.
