I know! Unbelievable stuff, but really pleased for them. Having just had a weekend in Doha last weekend, they are an ambitious country, and with all that wealth behind them, I'm pretty certain they will pull out all the stops.

I'm all for spreading the comp around but they've got this badly wrong.

How many venues do they need to develop? Only have Doha and the other town don't they? Guess a gulf WC would work if divvied up between two or more states.

I am very pleased for Qatar and also very sceptical about the situation. But look how much Dubai has grown in 12 years. I think the may need to open another booze shop though, one won't be enough. Will they allow drink sponsors? Heineken etc?

It's astonishing to see the complete lack of knowledge out there about Qatar. People think it's an Emirate of Saudi where you can't get a drink.

I think they'll just do what Arabs do...throw a shit-load of money at it. The region has shown it can handle other big sporting occassions like GPs and horse races. It will be interesting, that's for sure.

This will be something different. The plans they have are outstanding and the stadiums very innovative.

The country is building major infrastructure and this would be happening regardless of the world cup and getting the competition simply gives the place much needed media spotlight to draw in investment and generate interest.

The vitriol in the press is nonsense. Look at where the world cup is going next, brazil. Some of the biggest slums in the world and rampent poverty. Look at where it was last - main stadium next to the largest ghetto on that continent.

Qatar will do well. But you can see a few problems with anti social behaviour getting short tolerance - but this is good. Why should anyone make allowances for louts.

Just hoping my company gets in on the act and gets some of the work.

No reason for the UAE not the get the olympics now. The heat thing is nonsense also - anyone remember the non aircon facilities in Greece when it was 40 degrees. Thats the test is it not. Can you perform in all conditions.

However Russia and Qatar may have got the event, who cares. If you know the game and you want it, you do what it takes for your country to get it. The UK should just stop being so bitter.
