Qatar - 2 Brits investigating treatment of labourers are missing
BBC News - British researchers 'missing' in Qatar
With all the talk about denying Russia the World Cup from , it speaks volumes that there isn't the same level of opposition to Qatar.

given their names and skin colour im sure the qataris felt that it was perfectly ok and that nobody would notice.......................
"A UK Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are aware of the reports of two British nationals missing in Qatar and we are looking into them.""
in other words we've called the embassy but can't get any of the ****ers to pick up the phone

The Qatari's do not see these two people as British , you encounter this in every aspect of Qatari life from teachers , engineers , managers and so on , they only relate to the 'Blue Eye' mentality .

Very true, and is true for all of the MidEast and from observing and reading people's personal stories, it looks like the SubContinent is the same way.

I suspect that many people in Britain would also have problems in accepting them as British.

Why?? He is quite right!!! Although most wouldn't have problems.
(Also, I have over the years been really surprised to discover, many on BE would have problems, not this section of course
Not sure about the other poster's remarks about SubContinent as they actually originate from there, by the wider definition.

Some years later I read a news story about an Indian cricket team hiring American cheerleaders to come to India and entertain the crowds. Upon arrival in India the Indians who hired the cheerleaders were taken back that 1 or 2 of the cheerleaders were Black . They told the Americans they did not want the Black cheerleaders and only wanted to keep the White ones.
A recent Chinese immigrant to Australia started a coffee shop and advertised for a Barista. An Australian of Afro-Brazlian ancestry showed up for the job ; the Chinese employer flat out told him he would not be hired because he was Black and that he (Chinese employer) was looking for a White Australian.
Sydney Cafe owner told Australian citizen he cannot have a job 'because he is black' | Mail Online
The East is far more racist and unabashedly soo than the West, ironically it is the Asians and Arabs who are most likely to box a person in by their ancestral origins even if the person was born and or raised in the West.

Many years ago I read a article in which an African American professional went to work in India as an expat . The chap mentioned how the Indian co-workers he met wouldn't believe or accept he was an American, because to them he was just a Black person.

Not sure what you are getting at?
British-- Indian origin, Sri Lankan origin, people are going to India by the thousands to tour, work or live. (Their foreign-ness is immediately picked up though).
Certainly some uneducated people will be unaware of world geography and who comes from where, and racial differences in USA.
In some areas of India in Pune for instance there are large numbers of Nigerian students.
Many Indian people in villages will never have met a truly black african origin person.
Of course there is racism, it exists everywhere, you gave a few examples.
