Re: purse strings
saying that today is the last day of my 3 month probation period, so that's good news for me (as long as they don't sack me at 5.55!)
But yeah, we went to hyperpanda for a big shop last week, not buying loads of expensive stuff at the minute,
although I have promised myself a PS3 for xmas and not get it yet - anyone know if they will be cheaper in the sales??

yeah we're not paying loads back on the cards we're just keeping cash in the bank, we were going to go to thailand in march but we've put that on hold just in case,

PS3's should come down during DSF, if not you get free games etc with them. We have got one but we hardly use it, make sure you are 100% sure and it is not just a whim ..

Re: purse strings
Since I am ALWAYS broke, the professional advice I received was just to stash some cash and worry about interest rates once I had got a reasonable amount together. Can ask my 'professional' for his opinion if you want. But, isn't Meow in that field of business too?

Re: purse strings
It is the best. RBS was offering 6.6% until yesterday. ADCB is in Abu Dhabi and if they go bust, then they'll just fall into NBAD's arms...ADCB is majority (65%) owned by ADIA.....

Re: purse strings
In my 30+ years in the money markets, I have never regretted turning down seemingly too-good-to-be-true rates............

Re: purse strings
But it isn't, too good to be true, rate is it? That is the cost of liquidity here and every bank is paying 6% and above, including the likes of RBS; Stanchart; HSBC. But given the AD backing and the Central Bank "guarantee", relatively short exposure (12 months), I am comfortable with the risk....
What is your take on RBS? Is it ok given that the UK Govt has a majority stake in it?
