I'm going to somewhere near Darlington in July for a wedding...Manfield? Little village or something.

It's been suggested we stay in a B&B which looks bang average for 135 quid a night.

Anyone know any good golf courses up there, or for on the way back to reality (the South)?

Rockliffe Hall is a lovely place , never played the course but i've eaten in their Restaurant The Orangery , which was pretty good .

There's some really nice areas around Darlington , the towns not much to look at but the surrounding areas are pretty nice .

I think I've been there before.

To be honest my knowledge of the North is weak at best. I've been to Manchester (Old Trafford). I've been to Newcastle (Sister's 21st weekend). I've been to Scotland (too young to remember but we drove, so I've been through the North). I've been to Sheffield / Worksop.

Other than that, in the 23 glorious years I graced the UK with my ever-so-impressive presence I didn't get further up the green and pleasant fields than Oxford.

I'm now shifting the holiday to a Northern golf tour.

Reading this I can almost say you are Northern ha, no offence. There you go then, Sheffield is just next door to where I am from and you are still here to tell the tale therefore it couldn't have been that bad an experience!

I'm sure you will find great golf courses on your tour of the North, there are more fields therefore should be more golf courses. Or that's how it works in my world anyhow

I only played a few times in the UK on a 9-hole course...most seem to be much shorter than the UAE courses so could be a handicap-hammerer.

Oulton is a great course for a distinctly average golf player. (Like me)

Also don't have to sell a Kidney to pay for it.

If you're coming North Scamp have a look at slaley hall, close house and bamburgh

No idea if they're any good as my working class chip on the shoulder prevents me from mixing with twats dressed like that but they're all in beautiful settings
