Let me get this right - the pair of you are simply alone having a dinner in the desert? What would there be to talk about?

Just spent the weekend at the banyan tree Al wadi in RAK. that would be an alternative.

We're Brits, we know what badger means. And we know a beaver when we see one, too.

I would head down to the Qasr Al Sarab in Liwa. They will fix it for you to propose high on a dune at sunset, on the very edge of the Rub Al Khali (the empty quarter)

If you're letting the hotel in on the fact you're planning to propose during your stay will they let you stay in a room together whilst there, given that you're telling them you're not a married couple?

I know most hotels don't bother looking for confirmation as you check-in, just curious as to how they'd handle it if you tell them up front.

Can't see it being a problem - check when you book. Phone up and ask for the activities desk and detail your plans.

A deserted stretch of beach, 5am, a sunrise breakfast picnic, a tartan rug, some fizz, and a stereo with some nice music.

And they might even get to share the same cell.

My mrs would kill me if I woke her up for a picnic at 5am. Let alone say yes...

BTW - there is a cost to marriage, at the moment for us it's her 70,000 annual rent allowance!
