Proper and Affordable pubs in Doha
Is there any folks here that can recommend some proper pubs, not stacked with chinese or african working ladies, no weird entrance fees or some crap dj making it impossible to have a conversation with friends.
Eager to get some recommendations, Zawaya in Hilton used to be pretty ok till they changed it on Thursday to some paid african event which probably destroyed the place
I got to know that Oryx Rotana on Fridays has a nice deal in Jazz Bar for 150 QAR two hours unlimited drinks and I did enjoy that. No weird entrance fees.
There must be some other place out-there and i'm eager to hear about them.

Rarely have issues at most of the good hotels. Belgian Cafe at the Intercon is great for happy hour and no entry fee. Just a scan of your Qatar ID. All expats.
Champions is a friendly if smoky pub at the JW Marriott Marquis in West Bay. No entry fee. All expats. Happy hour daily from 5 till 9. 30 QAR pints.
Mondrian, Shangri La, Four Seasons, Rotona, W, Intercon, Hyatt, Sheraton, Ritz Carlton all have same same prices and no overload of working women. Happy Hour is pretty consistent at the better hotels, 5-7 or 5-9 or 7-9, minimal working women, prices similar enough at the cocktail venues or sports bar style pubs.
I'll take a stab and bet that you'd probably like Champions a lot.

Its moved now, Its treble the size and in the Best Western Plus with the same band that came over from the Rattlesnake in DXB
Edit - It fails just about every one of his requirements though but has its place.

Also recommend Admirals at the Ritz Carlton. When the weather is right, sitting outside has a great atmosphere. Can get smokey/noisy inside especially if a band is playing. The Husdon Tavern at the Mondrian is also worth a try. Nice bar area, and will probably fit your requirements.

Oh well, definitely some pub goers here. I used to go to Horizon, Krossroads. Used to live next door in Swiss. Been recently to their new venue in Best Western and that's a crap place, I refuse to pay a entry free to enter a shady pub. Became too big and lost the idea of having a good after work drink with friends. Too noisy.
Rattlesnake eh, I remember that from when I was in Dubai
Smoke free ain't working for me as I'd love to have my cigarette with a cold beer.
Seen Admirals, indeed nice as was mentioned when weather is right. bit out of the route tho.
I'd reckon that it will be Champions this eve.
Thanks for all the replies.

Belgian Beer at the Intercon should also be on your list for someday.

Jeez, Doha sounds like it's changed since I was there in 2009. Don't recognise many of the names. I remember the Aussie bar on the top floor at Rydges Plaza but I think that was knocked down because it overlooked the Emir's Palace. I also tried Garvey's, which was an experience. Can't remember the name of the bar in the basement at the Sheraton but went a few times. And the sports bar full of locals in that big gold hotel on cholesterol corner. Jeez, my memory ain't what it used to be!
