That's a good thing as far as I'm concerned. If the big teams can't be arsed during the group stages they don't deserve the "easy" routes that the draw gives them. It's good to see some different teams getting into the latter stages rather than Brazil, Germany, Argentina, Italy every bloody time.
I'm cacking my pants about the match, though. I have a feeling we might do them 2-0, but if it goes to pens I won't be able to watch. If England can do that (I make that about 66/1), they will deservedly be champions of the world............. |

Totally agree - I just don't think many people have realised the implications of 'major' teams coming second in their pool - to win this tournament now (stop laughing), England will have to beat Germany, then probably Argentina, then probably Spain, then probably either Holland or Brazil in the final.

according to the Dutch commentators, even though it was unfair that England didn't get that 2nd goal, they still didn't deserve to win as Germany played better... |

Re: Predictions for Sunday
Watched this game with my english neighbours and felt gutted for them, mainly due to the fact that they are really nice people. Didn't take the same pleasure in the english getting beat that I normally do.
However, Englands tehnical play was awful, an inability to pass the ball and try to attack. The germans were brilliant and have to be serious contenders after they knock Mexico out in the next round (hope). Good game for (semi)-neutral to watch!!! |

Ease up on the guys i think its back to the classroom pity its the premiership..but i believe discussions now must be had about reinstating sports in schools to engender competition at an early age then you might start to see a spawning of new younger talent not depending on the premiership to cut there cloth... Missing today Abangalor! I would'nt want to be on princes street edinburgh now or Glasgow..you would think full independence was just granted. Witnessed the last world cup exit in Edinburgh and it was a moment too grand:wink_smile: for those north of the border. |

Nothing to do with sports in schools, there are thousands of young, gifted players at school level, only the best get through to pro football, its what happens to them when they turn pro is the problem here. Paid too much.... goes to their heads.... And i so don't get why Scottish people don't shout for England?? Whats that all about? They are your neighbour |
Re: Predictions for Sunday
You're all being a bit hard on England. 4-1 sounds like a thrashing but it was anything but.
It's just one of those occasions when you simply have to shower praise on the opposition. Every German goal was created - at lightning speed - out of defence (one goal kick, three counter attacks), which very few teams that I've seen at this tournament would have been able to defend against. As I write, it looks as though Argentina will be their next opponents, which is a fascinating prospect but another German performance like tonight's and it is they who will be in the semis. And Lionel Messi may have come into the tournament as the world's best player but he'll have to step it up to prevent that honour being handed to Mesut Oezil.....what a player. What a player. And still only 21. |
