My god, that is one terrible film. I watched the entire thing on a flight assuming that is must contain something good given how people rave on about it. Just dreadful. What on earth do people see in it?

Everyone has at least one redeeming feature....... in Gibson's case, surely it is The Year Of Living Dangerously?
I love Peter Weir's films anyway, but his ability to get something previously undiscovered out of actors is remarkable - Robin Williams (Dead Poets Society), Jim Carrey (The Truman Show) and Harrison Ford (Witness) are all good examples. I think Witness is Ford's best ever performance.
(I couldn't forgive Gibson for Braveheart or The Patriot though - racist bilge).

And boy is Sigourney sexy in that. Best line:
Waiter to English Colonel: "You'd like ice and lemon in your gin and tonic, sir?"
Colonel: "Of course I don't want ice and lemon in my gin and tonic. I'm not a bloody American!"

I hate Withnail & I too. I've never met anyone else who does, or who is prepared to admit it, more like.
