yes Cyprus is a popular choice with expats, I didn't like the place when we visited on holiday though

The most scenic areas are in the Turkish northern section. They do have good western schools, apparently.

The idiots in Westminster and Brussels are almost unanimous (except for Nigel Farage, bless him) that Turkey should be allowed to join the EU, thus allowing 72 million people the right to live and work in Welwyn Garden City, if they so wish.

This will leave Turkish properties very affordable...............

Didn't like it?? Where did you stay? There are many lovely areas, but you have to avoid the awful package holiday tourists.

Can you recommend some non-touristy but accessible places to stay for a short visit?

LH - Stay inland or away from the tourist centres. It's not a big island so easy to get around.

You may laugh, but that is what I said 25 years ago! However looking forward to retiring elsewhere soon.[/QUOTE]

I went to Dubai for a holiday ten years ago and here I am now in Abu Dhabi - I think a lot of people come out that way and end up staying longer than anticipated.

I'm planning a few more years in the UAE (up to three I think) then I'll make a decision between Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai or perhaps Canada...however if business is good here I will probably do runs back and forth to see clients and keep things ticking over.

The UK is less of an option - it's just not the Britain I grew up in anymore

Personally I would prefer to retire in SW France myself. Such a beautiful part of such a beautiful country.
