Re: Places to go after Dubai
I'm planning on leaving in about a year or 18 months, Dubai is great - brilliant weather, loads of things to do and amazing places to see and above all a great way of life.
Saying that if it wasn't for the sun and tax free salary there's no way on earth I'd be here, I mean, who would right?
So we're thinking ahead and planning on the next move - Oz is amazing but too far away from home and family, so can anyone suggest anyone good to go and live and work? Places they have been?
Mrs Spugsy quite likes Singapore, I know people in Hong Kong who are happy and also a few in Kula Lumpur.
Basically I want somewhere that is more relaxed than Dubai (After my run in with the police I've come to realise that this country isn't for me), not aggresively religious, low or even tax free and not the other side of the world.
Any suggestions?
Thanks all....

Re: Places to go after Dubai
Was reading on the Singapore BE Forum recently that its apparently even more expensive than here. It was cheaper to fly to Kuala Lumpur and stay in a hotel there to watch a band in concert than watch the same band perform in Singapore. Just repeating what I read.

Looks like a trip over there could be in order, and as it happens a lad I worked with over here is there now also.

Re: Places to go after Dubai
I'd love to think that I could move back to where I spent my teenage years in the UK, but there aren't many media jobs up here, and those that there are are in TV, which isn't my specialist area.
Personally, I think China, Japan, Australia or the US will be where I go next. I'm originally from Australia and have plenty of family there, so getting in won't be a problem. I've heard good things about China from people that I know who've worked there, and Japan has always held a special place in my heart.
I'd love to work in the US, and I know if I look to become an industry analyst when I move on, the big three are all based in the US, so it's a good way to get in. It also helps that I know quite a few people based out there in the tech industry, which also may help.
Who knows.
But anyway, Spugsy. Have you considered somewhere in Europe? Or if you just want English speaking places, maybe Canada. Toronto is about 8 hours – the same as Dubai – away from the UK.

It's an interesting question. I reckon we'll be here for some time yet as work is going so well, but one day we'll want to move on. I quite fancy Malaysia as a potential final destination. KL is a major city so perhaps an hour out of there.
If things weren't going so well for me here I'd be looking at Singapore or Shanghai as next destinations.

I haven't really given it that much thought but would quite like Thailand to retire, we hope to say here until retirement
