Default Pirate Radio - Dub FM

Is it illegal to set up pirate radio here?

I assume it is, what would the implications be, if we went down the legal route, how do we set up a new Radio station?

Don't we have enough radio stations here already? Also weren't Coast FM laying off their DJ's because of the recession?

No, we do not have enough radio stations in the UAE. Or at least we don't have enough radio stations whose Playlist does not consist of Phil Collins, Lionel Ritchie and Bonnie Tyler.

We need an XFM or a Triple J for the Middle East...

A small point, but aren't pirate radio stations by their nature, just a teensy bit illegal?

Coast sacked all of their DJs - now just recorded loops.

answer to Q1:
Illegal? You may as well drive down Shk Zyd Rd with sponge fingers with a single digit, or walk through MOE naked.

Q2:
Legislation is very strict. Virtually all stations are owned by Emirati or state companies. Wasta would be a necessity.

given that its almost impossible to get a license for a walkie talkie, i'd imagine that a public radio station license is like rocking horse shit to get hold off unless you have serious wasta
