I have just been looking at the pics on the Gulf news website....I am trying not to think about how those people must have felt...

lets hope it finally pushes the police to do something about the ridiculous driving on SZR instead of spending all their time sat on the Beach Road doing very little.

I didn't even see one police car in the sunday morning fog from SHJ all the way to JAFZA...I wonder what is their purpose half the time; collecting tickets only for cars who cross the yellow line???

OH $hit! Well it's made me think about how I drive.
I wonder how many people will drive the same way they did yesterday, tomorrow?
Those pictures look like someone has dropped a bomb on the area! Scary.

Unfortunately I can't see it making any difference to how drivers from certain communities here drive. the only thing that wil stop the is long driving bans for stupid driving and that ain't going to happen to any local with enough Wasta!

Thats my worry too. Certain people over here seem to feel above the law and/or untouchable and invincible. It scares me seeing some of the stuff that goes on over here. I just hope that I don't turn that way as well. I will never be able to go home

I love the quote from a Shaleela Salem in the Gulfnews

"There were people and labourers on the road"

sums up the attitude to labourers here really.

Unless you turn into an Emirati, Saudi, Yemeni or Egyptian overnight, you will never turn that way as well.

it's extraordinary...they are still saying on the news that they don't know the exact number of fatalities, but at the moment, it is still at 5...i really hope that it is as low as that, but can't believe it for one minute...

Pretty obvious that in each of the cars that seems to be a blazing inferno, the driver and any passengers will have perished. No way they could get out alive from that. Not enough time, I should have thought.

Sorry to be so blunt.

have to agree that it is all very horrific, however i can assure you that it hasnt made a slightest difference to how people drive here, i was on the same bit of road on wednesday and people where driving like complete utter prats, i got so sick of the road idiots i had my car fitted with asshole seeking missiles, they dont work as there are too many targets for them to home in on and they get confused.
i have driven in so many countries around the world but this place takes the cake believe me.
the accelerator should only work as fast as the brain thinks then most of the drivers in the UAE would be back on donkeys
unfortunatly i have to do it all again in about 2 hours time when i go from Dubai to Raha beach.
take care
Peter
