Pay for lawyers in Abu Dhabi

Hi all,

We've just received a job offer to work in Abu Dhabi. We've had some conflicting views from recrutiment consultants, hence the main reason for the post is to find out whether the package offered is reasonable.

We will receive around 43.5k monthly as basic. The company will provide accomodation, flights, pay for all utility bills too.

I'm senior solicitor with around 7 years pqe and am UK qualified. Is this reasonable? Also, will it sufficent to survive in Abu Dhabi?

Thanks in advance.

You should just about scrape by on that, as long as you shop in the co-op instead of Spinneys

:rofl::rofl:The co-op is better too - there are too many expats with noses in the air in Spinneys and you can never find a parking space either.

might even be able to treat yourselves to an occasional starbucks on that salary, sounds like a good deal to me.

Thanks.

Blimey, I didn't think I would be scraping by, I was hoping to make some money. The basic is exclusive of accomodation, flights, bills etc.

You guys are worrying me.

Is inflation really that bad there?

Don't worry too much, was taking the piss.

You should be fine, if you work in property law you are going to be getting very busy.

I haven't got a clue what Lawyers earn to be honest with you, is it relevant to your salary in the UK?

So after accommodation you would have say 8k pounds/month tax free, which equates to around a 150k gross salary in UK plus whatever you get for for your UK place in rent. You can have lots of fun on this but it's not mega.

Presume medical is included.

As another comparison, your salary level is what we are paying for 10-15 year experienced good quality engineers.

Cost of living is similar to London, except for fuelling your Chelsea tractor, which is 30% of UK price. Cost of eating out is broadly similar but we find we do it a lot more, and that soaks up the dosh.

Vital to check that the accommodation or the allowance is acceptable. Very, very pricey to have to dip into your own pocket

Hope this helps

Twinkle star, Twix, Eva, Blue Cat and Weescot

Many thanks for your replies.

The company will pay for my accommodation, medical and flights separately. They will also pay for all utility bills. Hence, the basic (DHS 43,500) is in my pocket to spend on food etc.

Judging by the replies, I think this should be sufficient to survive in AD.

I hear the weather is perfect there now, with a nice breeze. Hmm, can't wait.

Look forward to it.
