I went to Portmeirion where Prisoner was filmed last year. Went round looking for his 'house' but couldn't find it...didn't know if he being No. 6 was also his house number.

His career had a bit of a revival later on, and he often appeared in cameo roles as a cold calculating type.

He was the prison governor in Escape From Alcatraz (Clint Eastwood movie). Nasty piece of work - an old prisoner painted a portrait of him which he didn't like so he made the guy's life a misery.

Good actor, in a limited sort of way. Stories abound that he turned down James Bond and The Saint, which may have some validity.

Can't seem to change avatar at the moment, so Ricardo 'Fantasy Island' Montalban (RIP) and/or Chesley Sullenberger (pilot who ditched his plane in the Hudson river) will have to wait for their moment of fame...........
