It has been reported that the Police were aware of some prior history of domestic issues and that they are shocked by the alleged intruder story. My guess is that they had a row, she stormed out, he got drunk and then shot her under the influence when she returned in the early hours. We will see.

As dodgy as the reason sounds, he may very well have shot mistakenly. Now if there was serious friction in the days leading up to the death, then it doesn't bode well for him.
