Only in America would they have to put out a press statement saying...

Mermaids don't exist!

Science has found no evidence that mermaids exist, a US government scientific agency has said.

The National Ocean Service made the unusual declaration in response to public inquiries following a TV show on the mythic creatures.

It is thought some viewers may have mistaken the programme for a documentary.

"No evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever been found," the service wrote in an online post.
How thick are these people??????

Some fundi Christian school in Louisiana has curriculum that claims evolution is debunked by the exsistence of the Loch Ness monster.

I thought this was a wind-up but major newspapers are reporting it and no sign of it being a hoax.

In the south eastern states in Nigeria - Akwa Ibom, Cross Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta in particular - the mermaid (known locally as "Mammywatter") is taken very seriously as a symbol of evil; anyone seeing a Mammywatter will surely die as a result of the evil spirits within a few hours.

I'm a collector of African art and one of my prized pieces is a Mammywatter dating from around the 1950's. This piece comes from Calabar in Cross Rivers state, close to the border with Cameroon. She has the typical fishes tail and human upper form and most interesting is her face, which is clearly based upon a Hindu woman complete with the Tilaka (or third eye) red spot on her forehead. Indian and Lebanese traders settled in the area from the late 19th century and I assume this is where the likeness comes from.

You would be astonished at some of yea olde bollocks the septics christian bible belt comes away with. Would be funny if it didn't stamp anyone from the region as being as thick as mince, except to those afflicted with religion.

Oh and when can we expect an announcement from any government agencies about the existence of elves, leprechauns, pixies, and Bigfoot?

Having seen the documentary in question last night it is rather 'realistic' looking. It also refers to factual events to postulate the Mermaid theory...if you are not very clever and well educated you might fall for something like that.

Smarter people believe in virgin births, genies, angels and marxism....ahem.
