I would expect that to be the case in Ireland. However, this is the south of England where most people have showers and baths installed in the home.

But seriously, wow.

First major surprise of the football.............. Japan have just beaten Spain 7-0.

Actually the scoreboard says 1-0 but that must be wrong because I saw about six open goals and/or easy chances that Japan cannot possibly have missed....... stupid scoreboard operator......... :frown:

Judging by that match, it isn't - it's just a gentle warm-up training exercise for the coming season.

Still the UAE are about to start against Luis Suarez and the rest of the cheats......

From the BBC Sport website:

"Nothing says 'Olympic spirit' like Katy B, Dizzee Rascal and The Wanted."

UAE lost 2-1............. the commentator was making a great deal of the fact that, as the UAE players faded away badly in the second half, it must have been due to their Ramadan fasting ("I haven't seen a single UAE player take so much as a sip of water").

Could be true, I suppose - they play GB next, who looked utterly utterly average last night............ that should be riveting.

Football is game of two halves! - If it had gone in the Net it would have been a goal! Jumpers for Goal-Posts, now there's an endering image! - Highlights on 'Match of the Day?'

And now we have two world records being set - in archery - with no spectators present.............

Spectators trying to get in to watch the archery were turned away amid confusion over ticketing.

The London 2012 website advertised the event's preliminary rounds as "unticketed", which some members of the public interpreted as open to the public.

But Olympic organiser Locog said it had not advertised or sold tickets for the ranking event and had always made it clear preliminary rounds were not open to spectators.

And speculation about who will light the cauldron reaches fever pitch........ one of the bookies has reportedly taken a bet of GBP 100 at 50,000/1 on Emile Heskey........

Some stories simply transcend mere sport............. the Holocaust survivor who came to Britain and became an Olympic weightlifter for GB............
