Oldtimers in Saudi

I first went there to work in October 1970 - when the capital was still effectively in Jeddah. Well, all the Embassies were there. Town was tiny compared to now. At that time the town consisted of the Blada and Baghdadiya. Going to "Kilo Asherah" to smoke shisha was a great excursion. That is in the middle of the city now !

Anyone here started their Saudi experience before that ? If St John Philby posts I shall be worried.

I picked up a great 'glossy coffee table' book called Jeddah Old and New which was released in the late 1970s. Sure that would bring it all flooding back.

But it's in my office in Olaya so if you are ever passing Scot and fancy a coffee...
