I have done plenty of research, thank you, both whilst studying at university and several years later when eventually deciding not to buy a property on the Turkish side. On a practical note, how easy is it these days to fly in/out from western Europe? I know it's very easy from here.

You can only fly into/out of the TRNC from Turkey as it is not recognised by any of the IATA member states.

So you may have to fly to the south and cross the border by car?

Yes and I believe it's a lot easier getting a visa to get into the North than it used to be, although I don't know how long they're valid for (used to be one day). And you'd need to be sure that the hire car was insured for driving in the North. Patsy will have much more up to date info on all of that.

It is very easy to fly into Larnaca and drive across. The Turkish Immigration usually just stamp a piece of paper so that you don't get hassled by the Greeks on your way back You can stay as long as you like.
