...... for a week, to go and see my Mummy...it is her 85th birthday :D
Fortunately, she lives in Northern Cyprus..so no bank issues for me :D

You mean that illegal entity which only Turkey recognises and where almost all of the land actually belongs to Greek Cypriots? Just repeating what I was told by umpteen posters on the Europe Forum when I once enquired about buying property there.:(

It's not as simple as that. In the South there are numerous properties that were owned by Turkish Cypriots, now 'owned' by Greeks; just as there is in the North. People moved in both directions when the country was divided.

I do remember seeing a very surprising sign in a shop on the Greek side in Nicosia; it said "I would rather serve a thousand Turks than a single Greek".

It turned out the guy was a coffin maker.

I suspect 'Turks' has now been changed to 'Germans'.

I would suggest that you do some research rather than depend on opinions on a Greek Cypriot forum.
In fact Larnaca airport is build on Turkish Cypriot land, but nothing gets said about that.
If you can get hold of a copy of The Cyprus Tapes by David Matthew it is an excellent book which will help to explain the circumstances of the Cyprus issue.

Cyprus was illegally invaded and occupied...still is but we don't hear half the venom about Turkey (which also committed mass genocides it still denies against Kurds, Greeks and Armenian people) as we do about the Arab-Israeli conflict. Someone has better marketing.

Anyway happy birthday to Mumsy...am sure she was part of the invading army.
