If anyone is looking for a job in singapore, I also concur, singapore is a breeze compared to the UAE. Much easier lifestyle.

Didn't know you were in shipping (for some strange reason I thought you were a lawyer!). But at least you're in Singapore!

Pity as Shipping Lawyers are highly in demand at the moment.
for the size of ships we mainly deal in companies were taking them on hire for 1 year for up to $70,000 a day. now they are lucky if they earn $7-8000 a day or $10,000 a day if they relet them to someone else for 1 year. So lots of contract claims out there.

what about the LNG transportation market? is that still booming?

Re: Ok the dust has settled ..
don't really follow it that much but I think its still very strong. very different market. tends to be long term (25 year) charters and very little spot trading like the dry market.
its mainly just the dry cargo and container ship markets that are in dire trouble. lack of demand from China and the lack of banks willing to open letters of credit mean there isnt much to be shipped these days. It won't pick up until the banks sort their act out.

What do you mean by 'utilities'
I come from a power generation and distribution company (albeit the marine and offshore sector) but we refer to our power dist department as 'utilities'

Thank you so much, right now the man in question works for an Engineering Consultancy and is the "wet & dry" utilites Manager dealing with all the drainage ect on major projects (LOL no its not his fault it floods)
So if either of you have contacts we would be most grateful, the kitchen of Dubai is getting a little hot right now

well I'm now in my 'dream job', things amazing, people dead friendly, work great, pay nice.....and now something has happened that could possibly see me out of a job,
fingers crossed it won't, but big changes here, I'm bricking it.
