Are you staying in Port Louis itself, or up the coast at a beach hotel? (I assume the latter).

Where are you staying? In general the best hotels are situated on the East and North coast, with some good mid range hotels on the West. If your hotel is part of a chain (Sun International etc) you can use the facilities of sister hotels. Things to do in Mauritius, take a choper ride over the Island, water sports, sea walking, Pamplemouse gardens, chamarel falls, the bazaar in Port Louise, Grand Bai is a trendy area, Gris Gris beach in the south( NOT FOR SWIMMING), Courpipe a nice village with its own temperate micro climate, Ile aux cerf (Watch out for the sea Urchins), climb some mountains and take a drive to enjoy the scenic south (from Le Morne 2 Blue Bai), deep sea fishing (some big sharks play just beyond the safety of the lagoons, dont let the locals tell you overwise), if you like surfing then Tamarin bay has some good waves, and le Morne is the place for wind sailing.

Best beaches, the ones owned by Royal Palm and Le Toussroke hotels, Perrybere and Blue Baie are good public beaches, (apart from these ones and a few other hotel beaches most of the beaches in Mauritius are overrated).

Go out in Grand Baie for partying then head down south to La Morne for diving and golf. Le Paradis Hotel near La Morne has a lovely course.

check out pamplemousse and the tea plantations - vanilla tea is lovely there.
