Not a joke.

So this Jock comes to Saudi for the first time last Thursday night via Bahrain.
Gets pissed on the plane and continues with the local Saudi brew until 2 a.m.

He then goes walkabouts and ends up at the Carlton hotel
on the Dammam Khobar highway and demands a drink!

Police called, him arrested and released Friday afternoon.
In his own words "I don't remember a thing".

He was emailed Saturday to get his arse down to court where he was sentenced to 75 lashes!

I'm laughing because the lucky sod could have got 6 months in jail or deportation.

There is no way he had time to sample any Sodi Sid if he got to the Carlton just after 2am, if he flew in from Europe. You couldnt get across the causeway, having come off BA, KLM, Luft etc in Bahrain, before 2am...

Not sure if you are referring to the causeway being busy or him not being on either the BA flight arriving 19-35 or the Gulf Air flight arriving 19-10!

Bit Udailiyah is South of Dammam, so technically it should be down to Udhailiyah...

Ah, fond memories of the Udhailiyah highway, stopping at the petrol station at the cement factory X-roads, the police stop, work car beeping away at me as I creep up and over the 110km\h mark.... Trying to read the rig - cards while peering over dunes looking for a rig-mast..

Turning around when I came to Haradh....

Aye, fun times...

Yes.

Certainly nothing to be laughed at.

Tbh, I think I'd opt for the jail/deportation option myself. 75 lashes is going to make a mess of his back. Still, he'll have some interesting scars to show the grandkids.

Laugh that one off. :(

Of course, I personally know 2 nationals lashed for drinking, jailed and demoted from their jobs. The female companion, non Muslim, was in jail for 3 days for enticing a Muslim to drink

I doubt any westerners have been though as it is not illegal for westerners/non Muslims to drink if they have an alcohol licence

How the hell do you 'entice' a muslim to 'take a drink'?????

You usually have to lock the bar up before the buggers come round....

Ah, because she had obviously lured them to take an alcoholic drink since, being Muslim, they have no self-determination....

He was drink-driving, which of course is stupid and potentially life-threatening to innocent people and therefore a very bad thing, however, he told me he got lashed more because he was a drunk muslim, than because he was a drunk driver.

No, I mean the main reason why he got lashed was because he was a drunk muslim.
