'no Indians'

An Australian supermarket's cleaning firm has sparked outrage by posting an advert for staff that stipulated: "No Indians or Asians please."

I dunno, some cultures are just so backward ....

Coles are claiming it was posted by a sub-contractor without their knowledge...this will be a PR nightmare regardless if it's true or not. Seems unlikely they would knowingly post something like that in Australia in this day and age. Those sorts of ads are typical of what we'd see in the GCC and parts of Asia though (saw one in the Philippines once advertising for female personal assistant: Should be under 25 with nice legs - didn't have a camera on me sadly at the time).

No comment on your culture comment - an unfunny attempt at brining over something from another thread.

Not really Norm, it is well known that jolly racism is ingrained in Australian culture.

But yes, I do agree with you - what you see in job adverts here is truly shocking.

For purpose of documentaion of life or just humour, anyone thought about taking pics of the ads?

There was a similar story in Australia a few years back - a guy phoned his local paper to place an ad to sell his house, and included the words 'No Asians'.

Uproar. Demonstrators outside his house, MP condemning him in Parliament, etc.......

Then a local TV crew turned up to interview him, and asked why he had said 'No Asians'. 'I don't like them' he replied, 'they don't do any work, and the fees they charge for selling your house are extortionate........'.
