No Eid Holiday?
Does anybody know if the private sector will be getting any days off next week? My boss says that Eid will comprise Friday-Saturday only (a weekend) whereas I understand that the public sector gets 3-4 days off depending on whether Eid starts on Friday or Saturday. In Saudi we used to get a real holiday unlike here where such things are a pipe dream it seems.

Re: No Eid Holiday?
Seems that public sector employees may have an extra day, but it is all so vague. See today's Gulf News
http://www.gulf-news.com/nation/Heri.../10158866.html Using astronony it is possile to know the movement of the moon years ahead, so why can't this be used instead of some bloke squinting out of a window? Tradition is all well & good. but this is disruptive to both people and businesses. |

Thanks for the link but the real issue is why the private sector never gets the same holiday entitlement as the public sector...

Re: No Eid Holiday?
UAE labour laws state that all employees are entitled to two days paid holiday in respect of Eid Al Fitr. The accepted interpretation however, is that that Friday and Saturday are appropriate days.
