News of The World & phone hacking

Re: News of The World & phone hacking
We should never lose sight of the fact that this guy was not just hacking phones for ‘a Newspaper’, he was hacking phones for the Newspaper group that can, and often does make or break political careers.
That is why there have not been investigations by the police into this. No one dare stand up to Murdoch and his bully boys. Blair needed the support of Murdoch, Brown finally lost it, Cameron got in on the nod and Cable was tossed out on his ear for having the temerity to suggest that Murdoch owning everything was perhaps not the best method of ensuring a free democracy! Remember, the police were all to eager to spot any amount of crimes committed by peaceful protesters, but cannot spot a systematic attack on people’s phones? Yeah, right. This git was working with implied impunity because he was working for Murdoch. Cameron employed a downright scumbag as a press officer because he was a scumbag and not about digging out dirt on the opposition.
You cannot be an effective government in this Country without the direct say-so of Murdoch. I wish it were not so, but look around you.

Re: News of The World & phone hacking
Andy Coulon has now been arrested.
Why on earth is Rebekah Brooks not being arrested too? She is Editor in Chief and everyone knows she is up to her neck in it, especially as she was editor (& a very hands on one) at the time of the Milly Dowler case.

Re: News of The World & phone hacking
Police are investigating evidence that a News International executive may have deleted millions of emails from an internal archive, in an apparent attempt to obstruct Scotland Yard's inquiry into the phone-hacking scandal.
The archive is believed to have reached back to January 2005 revealing daily contact between News of the World editors, reporters and outsiders, including private investigators. The messages are potentially highly valuable both for the police and for the numerous public figures who are suing News International.

But unless the hard drives are damaged they can retrieve the emails. There's also the recipients... Coulson could probably bring them all down if he feels like going out in a blaze of glory.
Still, they had plenty of warning to get rid of damaging evidence. I can imagine hordes of computer experts getting busy at many a red top's hq this week.
I have a feeling someone will sing like a canary soon ... They're probably in touch with Max Clifford now. Rumour is that several are ready to talk to BBC. Others are selling their story.
Rebekah is holding a meeting at news international now. She's still claiming she has been betrayed. Supposed to be a big announcement soon by James Murdoch. Rebekah claims NOTW needed to be shut down as they were facing two years of this and it would get worse.

What I found funny is that they have disabled all phones and email at NOTW... Errr... you know those things you hacked called mobile phones, guess how everything is leaking out?

Max Clifford has already gone on record to support Rebekah Brooks

Re: News of The World & phone hacking
In September 2010 The Guardian revealed that, as part of the cross-party media committee investigating News of the World's phone-hacking (a report entitled 'Press Standards, Privacy and Libel'), Rebekah Brooks repeatedly chose not to attend to give evidence; resulting in four members of the committee "considering asking the serjeant at arms to issue a warrant forcing Brooks to attend"; however they subsequently dropped this proposal because it was alleged their private lives would be investigated if they did so.
So she blackmailed MPs? Sometimes you think “That reporter/person really crossed the line and did something illegal but it was in the public interest” like wikileaks often. This isn’t like that’s at all however, it’s just illegal.
I hope the people at the top get done first, how can you claim your staff where obtaining exclusive information and you never thought to ask where they might be obtaining it or where they money was going? Either they knew or they didn’t ask because they knew nothing good could come of it.

Re: News of The World & phone hacking
In a letter to NotW staffers, Brooks wrote that they would receive three months' pay post-termination and that efforts would be made to integrate them into other News Corp properties.
Murdoch should face punishment, as in huge punitive damages and government action to stringently regualte his media empire. The hack 'journos' should face lengthy prison terms. Sadly though I don't have any faith in the justice system dishing out meaningfull punishment, once the outrage has subsided.

Max will go wherever he thinks the money/future money is. I did a hour long "skeletons in the cupboard" type show on max clifford many years ago. Had the pleasure of him threatening me in person, like a mafia don - I had to remove an offending part of the show or I would never work in television again (at least he was more intimidating than Kilroy who tried the same old line when I wouldn't back him in a big political complaint) There was a lot of stuff we couldn't put in for legal reasons. Channel 4 laywers are shit hot and we had to get rid of very incriminating stuff. He knows where everybody's bodies are...
He'll have clocked the mood change across the uk and will swing whatever way works for him. Politically too. If he thinks Rebekah is finished then he won't lift his eyebrow for her.
