Re: Newbies....Introduce yourselves to the ME crowd
Hello!
I've been in Dubai 5 weeks now and just found time to sign on and introduce myself - despite much research it seems to have take a lot longer (and been far more confusing!) than I'd anticipated to get stuff done. Think it's something I'll have to get used to!
Anyway, from London, moved here with my husband (he started working immediately, I'm still searching hard for gainful employment), no kids but a tremendous thirst so keen to get alcohol license sorted asap.
Looking forward to exploring Dubai and hopefully meeting some new people.

Thanks, hope so!
If it was up to me would have been one of the first things I did. Someone (husband) seemed to think more important to sort out flat / residency etc.....odd.
There are however bars in walking distance so am coping!

Re: Newbies....Introduce yourselves to the ME crowd
Hi guys, not sure if this is still the best introduction thread but here I am anyway.
We moved here last year and are slowly finding feet and even more slowly have found this site... I moved with my wife from southampton, she is 26 I am 32. I work near the airport as an air traffic controller.
My wife is looking for any P.A or secretarial type jobs in Abu Dhabi. She was offered one from Etihad and spent 2 months sorting the contract stuff, visa stuff and security clearance out for them to tell her that due to cost cutting they now withdrew the job offer. She has had a few interviews since but no luck.
We were wondering if there are any type of networking events that may be useful for her to attend over here? Or any other suggestions?
I have checked the job offers thread and nothing suitable on there...
Thanks for any help

Re: Newbies....Introduce yourselves to the ME crowd
Hello,
My name is Rachel, home is Lincoln, UK, I am 40 years old and am new to the UAE.
I am messaging using my husbands log in, he has been working here in Al Ain for 6 months and I have just joined him.
I am at a bit of a loose end at the moment and am looking for work but with little success so far - I hope to find admin work in Al Ain.
I would be very interested in meeting up with any other expats and getting some local information, eg good hairdressers in Al Ain, and where to look for social events.
I am also new to forums and am a bit confused by all this thread business so bear with me while I get used to it!
Look forward to any help you can give me.
Thanks!!
Rachel

Re: Newbies....Introduce yourselves to the ME crowd
Hi
Will be "popping out" to Jeddah on business on and off for a few months.
No specific questions at this point - I just thought I would say hello - I might be talking to some of you soon - possibly even face to face but more likely during quiet evenings in the Hotel......
No doubt I will have loads of questions soon......

And I thought simply living in Dubai was my ticket to diminished responsibility....
