Default New Year Fireworks Doha #2

I posted a couple of months back asking about NY stuff... we're now definitely booked in and wondering what websites, etc., we should trawl to find out where's best to be on NY Eve in Doha. We're staying at the Sheraton, so one end of the Corniche... anyone any observations to add to what we might find elsewhere?

Plus... totally different question. I've googled for all I'm worth and don't want to arrive like some dozy western woman unprepared: Can I or can't I or is it should I or shouldn't I wear a bikini on the beach? I've read about covering shoulders and knees when out, but I've also read about wearing shorts and t-shirts to go swimming and now my head's pretty messed about what I should pack!! Which does matter - I've got to pack in Spain to spend Xmas in the UK (so cold) but take warm weather clothes to Qatar then back to UK (cold) before returning to Spain (technically slightly warmer but we live in the hills!!) plus of course carrying Xmas paraphernalia.

You can wear a Bikini on any of the hotel beaches here the only ones you would get problems are the public ones. Same goes with covering shoulders and knees, any hotel restaurants you don't have to worry about the arabic restaurants or places like the souk you should wear a short sleeves T-Shirt/top.

NYE, you have a restaurant at the top of the Sheraton see what they are doing as being up there for 0000 you will have a view over the whole of Doha

Thanks very much. After the indulgences of Christmas I may choose to avoid my bikini but it had to be asked! And I had a feeling the Sheraton may be ok for NYE though I wondered if there might be fireworks a bit further away or anything?

New Years Eve and New Years Day are not officially recognized here by the Government , the latter not even being a public holiday. Ive never heard of any fireworks displays , that's not to say there wont be any of course . This is Qatar , anything can happen .

The best events will be at the hotels , the usual suspects will suffice . Try www.timeoutdoha.com for better info .
