New road into AD via Yas Island

New road into AD via Yas Island
I have been told that there is a new road from Yas Island way that takes you directly into the east of AD, but is much quicker than the old route via Maqta Bridge and the Eastern Ring Road.
I have meetings in AD tomorrow on that side (Delma Street & them Le Meridian), so can anyone tell me if that's a better route & if so, is it well signposted?
Thanks for your help

Are we talking about the Yas-AD route that has been open for well over six months or another new one?

You've got two choices:
There's the upgraded Salaam Street which is completed all the way up to about 9th Street. The final tunnel section won't be ready for another 6 months or so. If you drive into Abu Dhabi as you'd normally go, take the Sheikh Zayed bridge rather than Maqta bridge and you'll be straight on the road. It's 4 lanes all the way and there are several turnoffs along the island.
The other road is the Sheikh Khalifa highway which travels through Yas and Saadiyat island and re-appears on Abu Dhabi Island at Mina Zayed (the port). If you're aiming for the Corniche it'll probably save 10-20 minutes on the time to drive in.

Heh, yeah. The internet connection here is rubbish and doesn't always let me post things straight away...

Watch out for the speed cameras if you take the Yas route, and the unmarked police cars if you take the Eastern Ring Road.

yeah when you get onto the Yas route, take the Yas- Saadiyat route. You travel through both islands before getting onto AD island itself.
At the very end of this new route, there is a bit when you go past the port and containers etc, and then a speed limit sign, which is followed by a speed camera very very soon afterwards. Don't get caught.

When will we stop referring to it as the new road? - it opened in October 2009, one week before the grand prix!
