Funnily enough, thinking about it, most of my friends who are trying to lose weight use skimmed or semi-skimmed milk and margarine instead of pure butter - I'm one of the few who used full-fat (everything, really) and er, doesn't need to lose weight!

Yup, ready-meals and fast food are the only way to go.

Another example of a nanny state in Europe telling us what to consume and how to treat our own bodies methinks.

However will this end up like smokers in Britain whose taxes pay roughly three times what they cost the NHS? Maybe we should be encouraging more fatty food and cigarettes to plug financial gaps in pensions (they will die earlier) and medical treatment costs?

Absolutely right. Fat doesn't make you fat, high GI carbs, large portions and lack of exercise make you fat. (Although undoubtedly a high intake of saturated fat isn't good for you--but the parents of most of us ate butter, dripping on toast and full-cream milk: were they fat? Mostly not, because they had balance in their diet and balance in their lifestyles.)

And 2.3%? The people who think these things up need to get out and observe the population: if a Big Mac costs EUR 3.19, is ANYONE going to change his or her eating habits because the price has gone up to EUR 3.26? Would I be deterred from buying a pack of butter because the price had gone from AED 22 to AED 22.5? Jeez...:blink:
