Oy, I have one of those! Your right though, it's better as a paperweight than a phone. :D

Here is what you need: http://iphone.unlock.no/

so this can unlock the NEW iPhones then?

Also don't you need to spend 10 mins registereing or something when you buy it?? And also don't you have to get a contract for it in the UK?

It's all down to what you want in a phone - I love my iPhone, not arsed about too many fancy features you get on some phones now.

Phone/iPod/sms in one does me nicely.

Yep, it's free and works on 3G - google pwnage and you can find the software as well as instructions.

Not too tricky, as far as I know the tool is just available on Mac at moment.

Also take a look at these sites...

Buy one somewhere in Europe, masses of people are dumping them as apparently the broadband on them works like shit. Apple hopes to solve some of the problems with a major software update in a few weeks from now. Repeat... HOPES to solve some problems. It's nicknamed as the Gates Junk Phone here in Holland. Don't spend to much on it, even second hand.

Just out of curiosity, what are you willing to pay for them? Sim lock free of course.

Just got back from UK. They can be unlocked, but you have to buy into a contract with O2.
