What sort of company brings in extra 'muscle' to handle families, children, etc.......? This is getting very unpleasant......... Nakheel have already defied RERA - what next?

What surprised most from the whole article is that RERA even issued a statement critical of Nakheel.

Best thing to do is to leave the greedy b@@@@@ds.
“Go and do a survey yourself. You will not find one single person, who intends to carry on living here when their lease is up,” one resident told Arabian Business.

“Many are just leaving early even if it means losing money, because the atmosphere here is so horrible now.”


By the way, what is the quality of construction like for those apartments?

Our contract is up end of February, if things stay as they are we will not be renewing.

It doesn't matter that they delayed it to the 15th - that just means they delayed the extra charges. They've been told they can't charge extra by RERA but appear to be marching on with their deluded plan anyway. As it stands NONE of the people I know here on shoreline can get access to the beach.

It gets worse... There's is now a letter on the noticeboard in reception stating that we need to get new access cards for the doors and the garages as well. If this is linked to owners paying the disputed service charges then we are royally ****ed. Surely it's illegal to lock people out of their homes?

My contract is with an agency - they are getting a firework up their jacksy tomorrow. I've had enough of this shite.

That sounds like the guard who stopped us weeks before the old passes were banned. He wouldn't let us one because they had old tenants names on their sheet. But we had the bloody passes. We had a copy of the RERA approved tenancy agreement with us but it was completely security "computer says no." I just stood there saying, I'm not going anywhere, you are wrong, I'll stand here all day shouting if I need to." eventually he completely lost it and started booming at me - "this is not the uk (hell yeah, shouty man), you will do what you are told, you don't live here, this is not your home."

He threatened to get nakheel on the phone and I said - "yes please, that would be lovely. Get someone really high up though so I can take this outrageous behaviour of your to ultimate boss."

Eventually he let us in. Behind me there was a woman going "I don't geev a sheet you stupid, squat leetle arsehole" much to the joy of my kids.

All this in mid November. They've been spoiling for a fight for ages.

There has long been a theory that goes "Camels-Cadillacs-Camels." If they aren't careful the well greased slide to stage three may get a damn good hold that no amount of Swiss and Cayman islands funds can stop...

I have not heard that phrase "camel to cadillac and back to camel " in a loong time.

If the West wasn't soo anal about Iran, they could be a valuable resource to teach the GCC Arabs some humility.

Teaching GCC Arabs humility, with a background of corrupted Islam, Nepotism and strong belief that family members must be protected at all cost is a non starter.

The West has a fear of another '79 Iran revolution kicking off,and for all the good it did in interfering in Iran, appears to be sliding down the same route ( again...)

A good book to read on the Iran Revolution is "The Shah's Last Ride" by William Shawcroft.

I re-read it recently, and all I could think was "Those who don't learn from history...."

The mid - seventies Tehran was both morally and financially bankrupt. Now, does that sound like Dubai, or have I got an advanced dose of cynicism?

Funny you should write this, I was thinking the same thing during a visit last week. It's gone a lone way downhill over the years.

I was in Dubai when the Shah fell, and I remember driving to jumeirah Beach, which at the time was just sea and sand, and sitting looking out over the sea towards Iran. There was a fear at the time that it would lead to war because of the disputes over The Gulf islands.

Last week I was telling the story to an expat over dinner, and he said it will happen here sooner or later.

Like Aden in the 60s, it will not be the local Emeratis who cause the problem, but the Arab blow ins who came looking for money. In Aden it was work in the new BP refinery that attracted them, in Dubai it was the construction boom. They arrive and pretty soon start acting like they own the place, and object to expats living there.

Oh I agree that teaching them humility is a non starter if one expects this of them absent outside pressure.

Many years ago I was watching a news reporter talking to an Arab 'from the street' about Saddam , Iraq and the war an all. The Arab chap mentioned that Arab culture only respects power and might. So if the West didn't have such animosity towards Iran and a new page was turned regarding the West's relationship with Iran, the GCC would be forced to be a little nicer to others. As it is, nothing is forcing the GCC to be nice and they certainly won't act considerate on their own volition.
