My drive to work this morning.

My drive to work this morning.
Thought i'd share the debacle that was this morning in as positive light as possible (I know I whinge too much).
Get in car....need petrol....pull into petrol station but it's back 3 deep from the pumps with cars.....think i'll make it to the next station and must have been running on fumes when i'd got there.
Guy starts filling it up....I go in to get cash from the ATM...ATM doesn't work but it doesn't have any sign on it saying out of order.
I go back to petrol pump dude and ask if I can pay on credit card. He says no...cash only.
I say atm broken and I have no cash....he says cash only. This went on for a while until he gets his manager who says...cash only....I ask why in 2010 we can't use another form of payment than cash....he explains that banks charge for credit cards so they don't accept them for fuel....I point out that I can buy a bottle of milk on my credit card in the exact same station.
anyway - agreed I could pay tomorrow and left.
Get to work.
I work in a site office that literally is in the middle of the desert, bunch of portacabins lined up together.
no car parks in front of our offices so park in front of contractors offices in an (apparently) unreserved spot.
Turns out it was the Contractor Project Managers spot.
He arrives and sends guy to find the owner of the car in his spot. Guy comes to me and says I have to move. I was in a meeting and said I would move it in a minute.
10mins later another guy comes and says I have to move my car. I go to move my car but the PM has blocked me in with his car. So I say I can't move it, there's a car blocking me in and go back to my office.
10 mins later a 3rd guy comes and tells me to move my car.....I look out window and see the car has moved so I go and move mine....then go into Project manager and ask why we have to act like 3 year olds wasting half an hour over a god damned car park. There was plnety of parks in front of his offices.
Do I feel any better for that speel? No. Just surer every day that it's time to leave this dump and the idiots within.
Oh - forgot to mention the dude driving with his hazard lights on at 150kph. Where's the logic?

Re: My drive to work this morning.
still...nice that you can go and come back the next day to pay...don't think that they would have accepted that back home...
and there's childish people like that everywhere...we used to live in a street with neighbours like that back in Holland...confiscating public parkingspaces, blocking innocent people just cause they felt those spaces were theirs...
but yeah, if your time has come, everything annoys you, I can see that...

I used to keep my car’s petrol more than half just to be safe from this kind of embarrassed situation.

Re: My drive to work this morning.
Even if i'd checked how much was in my pocket before filling i'd still have been stuffed as I had no fuel in the tank either.
First time it's happened and probably won't happen again so no worries. It was the jerk and his carpark that really got me wound up though.

Another example of how, despite how crap the UK seems to be, many problems are avoided before they happen.

Re: My drive to work this morning.
I worked in a petrol station for a while when I was a student. The issue would never arise as you can pay by cash, cheque, credit or debit card there...and if you had nothing you would be allowed to come back after they take your car registration details so they can report you to the police after a few days should you do a runner.

I haven't used cheques over there since god knows how long...
anyway, that is besides the point...just saying in a similar situation (and I am sure that could still happen, they wouldn't be so nice as to let you go and come and pay the next day...but hey, what do I know, sorry for being positive as that seems to be some sort of fcking crime around here these days.

Re: My drive to work this morning.
I think that dude makes mistake if he allowed someone go without paying cash and come latter for paying even you take all details of the car. The car driver may deny latter.
I agree there are trust people who will come back and paid.

Maybe any old sod he might not have done the same...who knows.
But the thing that gets me, ok - fair enough you don't accept credit cards as policy due the bank charges....surely you could let it slide just this once and we could all be on our way. He wouldn't even accept adding the charges to my payment amount.

Anyway nothing like some good old stick beating to cure whatever wrong someone does to you...
I bet it would have worked nicely with the possessive car parking spot dude...

Re: My drive to work this morning.
Had to drive to Ajman this morning. The radio guy said Emirates Rd closed before Sharjah but, when reaching the said road near Mirdiff, the entry sliproad was open and I could see plenty of traffic on the road heading Sharjah bound...so I joined them. Great for 20kms in dry conditions until just before National Paints when suddenly gridlocked. Many cars were either reversing or doing a u-turn on the highway, so if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. The entire road was obviously closed, so I manoeuvred back to the previous exit and took the scenic route around the university complex. No idea where I was going but headed generally east. Proceeded instead to my second destination between RAK and Fujeirah (where it was raining) and did Ajman thereafter. Eventually got back to Dubbs around 12.30pm. Knackered.

Re: My drive to work this morning.
In the middle of Wales (south) I forgot to pay after filling up. I returned after about 4 hours and paid, they said it happens all the time, and they wouldn't have called till at least 24 hours.
This was 4 years ago but.
