Hello Peeps in the ME forum

I have a question. My cousin is a great lad, 6'4, well educated and well read. He is moving to Dubai next week and is a bit of a know-all about what he will find there. Our family concern is that when sober our cousin is a fine lad but when drunk he is a lairy, volatile eedgit. Too boot he is a gay man and straight acting when sober and ridiculously 'are you being served' when drunk.

We are concerned that he may need some more local research before he can be safe when he lets himself go. Can you give me an idea of what the culture is like there and the places my cousin might be more safe. This is not a wind up, I am really unsure of how cosmopolitan Dubai really is and whether there is a scene in existence.

He probably should control his alcohol intake somewhat. As that sort of behaviour probably will get noticed...having said that you should see the state of most people on a Friday night. The violent thing isn't a good idea here...but frankly nor should it be anywhere!

In short, if he acts very lairy and very gay when he is drunk, he is likely to get the crap beaten out of him.

But then that would be the same almost anywhere..

Homosexuality is illegal in Dubai, although there are a number of gays still here

Advice for your cousin is that all the gays in Dubai signify the fact that they are gay in nightclubs by wearing sunglasses, so he can welcomely approach all those..

Its a bit like Newcastle wear you signify you are gay by wearing a coat..
