Really Pats-eek- 6.3 is classed as strong on the richter scale. I'm sleeping under a doorframe tonight with a whistle and a bottle of something just in case!

Re: my building is shaking
If inside, get under the most solid piece of furniture you can (usually a table), second best in a door frame. Try to keep away from windows. They say don't try to get outside because of the danger of falling debris (especially glass), but I reckon its a toss up. Don't use the lift, obviously.
If outside, get away from buildings and other structures (eg the Metro).
If you're in 49er's, grab the nearest person of the opposite sex, and enjoy. Coz if there was a fire (often the greatest cause of death in an earthquae), there's no way you'd get out.

Inside a building. If I was inside Marzipan Price (see contemporaneous thread), I wouldn't notice the earthquake. And if you're in Ikea, you deserve to die anyway (and there's no solid furniture to get under, its all made of reconstituted fag ends); sadly, though, the buildings are all steel, and they flex too much too fall down. Damned turnips.

Hold the front page: earthquake in Ilkley last night, 3.7 on the Richter scale. Couldn't get under the billiards table quickly enough, wife and cat thought I was bonkers. Stayed there all night just in case of aftershocks.
