1. can you pay dhs at the border
2 How thoroughly is the car searched

Yes you can pay in Dhs

It depends, but usually barely. The northern enclave border is not really as strict as the main one.

I also heard one of my favourite laws there....It is illegal to have a dirty car???!!? Not sure if it's true, but brilliant!

It's illegal to have a dirty car parked on the road here too. Technically you will get your car towed.

You really should plan the route before going

Yes, You have to go through RAK City (Which is quite an adventure as none of it is signposted) to get the border

It looked quite straightforward on the map and I've got my 10year old navigator with me. It looked like you just go Emirates Road to Barracuda then just continue around the coast????????? Maybe I best get the map out again and have another look
