The Most Dangerous Woman in Britain

Re: The Most Dangerous Woman in Britain
Mate, I'm sitting here, laughing and trying not to snort my coke through my nose (don't worry, it's the brownish liquid stuff, not the white powdery kind).
Not quite sure what is causing you the hilarity... But hey-ho, each to their own..
This is what I'm taking away from you:
1. Referendum said no, but that doesn't matter because we can always change our mind in the future and vote yes. But if we vote yes, we can't change our mind in the future and have another referendum to rejoin the UK?
Ok. Got it.
10/10. Although I'm unsure why I think there are some subtle undertones in the way by which you have stated your realisation of the facts...
Now, to quote you:
2. "And here lies a perfect example of the 'clarity' of commentators. Here, you are only 'broadcasting' to BE readers. Without a response from me, many would read your 2-liner and assume you were correct.
Unfortunately, like many media commentators, you read half, decide yourself the pithy point you want to try and make, and run with it..."
I see.
It's only the naysayers on here who's doing it, but not you. You're different. Got it. Even thought everything you've said is uncited and you also seem to be pulling things out of thin air without backing them up and, to quote you, "decide yourself the pithy point you want to try and make and run with it." Your comment about SNP's oil figures being more cautious is a perfect example. More cautious than whose? The UK government or the oil companies themselves, or some wacky blog somewhere? Big difference. Which is it? But by not confirming it you did a nice trick there and your pithy (and uncited) point certainly did its job in leaving a lingering doubt intended to weaken the opposing claim.
Ok, you make a point, but not quite sure how you jump from you completely misreading or misunderstanding something and me quoting a fact I believe to be correct, yet not having the citational evidence.. These are 2 different things. You misunderstand or misread something, then crack on regardless, I correct you. You are proven to be wrong.
I make a point that I believe to be correct yet, due to my lack of manners of not only trying to educate, but do peoples homework for them, it is lies until I produce evidence?
Mate, I understand why many people want independence. I don't doubt Scotland would survive decently enough as an independent country. But to try to pretend the SNP didn't run its own ruthlessly efficient and nasty political machine during the referendum is, well, just pure denial. It was fascinating to watch and doubtlessly books will be written on their modus operandus.

You have me wrong. I am not a paid up member of the SNP. I am in no way defending their modus operandus. I am a Scot who wants Independence. If truth be told, I am a Scottish Democratic Socialist, but we are harder to put in our little box, coz there aint a box marked Scottish Democratic Socialist...

Re: The Most Dangerous Woman in Britain
By using the term 'sassenach' you were being extremely respectful weren't you?
Not sure what is racist about ginger and sweaty people, some of my best friends are ginger and sweaty, especially Sweaty Ginger Bob.
You cut me to the quick there over my user name, well done, not many would have used that. I am trying to work out what TGFKASE stands for is 'This Guy F***in Knows About Scotland Everybody' close?
That was entirely my point, they would come back and would need bailing out after wasting all the money on sweets.

1. Sassenach. If you have any Scottish friends, maybe you could ask them what Sassenach means. If not..
Spoiler:
Point of order. Sassenach, as far as I am aware, has no negative connotations. If, however, I have cut you to the quick with the epithet, then I am frankly surprised, what with your think skin... 0/10 for perceived slight on usage of Sassenach.
2. Sweaty. Given the context of the conversation, obviously relates to rhyming slang 'Sweaty Sock' - Jock. A negative and derogatory term towards those from Scotland. 10/10
3. Ginger. Given the context of the conversation, especially when used in tandem with (2), is an additional negative and derogatory term towards those from Scotland. 10/10
4. TGFKASE. Struggled to come up with something negative and derogatory there, tho.. 0/10.
5. Money on sweets. You have completely lost me with this.. Ill leave your mark open for this, if you want to expand..
Gotta say, the standards have REALLY slipped in here..
Can I verbally spar with a real adult please.....

Re: The Most Dangerous Woman in Britain
Because when the Scots say Sassenach they say it with love.
I don't think "point of order" means what you think it does, no matter how often you type it.

As a sweaty (not ginger, although my father (was) and youngest brother are and they do smell of Fox wee and twiglets) I am not offended in the slightest by the use of such an epithet. As for attempting to classify this as 'racist' I have got news for you, the Scots are not a race.

As you well know 'Sassenach' is a derogatory term used by Scots to refer to their Southern fun loving friends.
I would like to get your definition of a 'Plastic Jock'(post #30), I'll give you mine:
"Person with Scottish connections (possibly born there, but not necessarily), who believes themselves to be the authority on Scotland and all things Scottish, this despite having spent more time living outside of Scotland than inside it over the last 30 years. Most likely found trolling on an Expat forum"
Next.

Re: The Most Dangerous Woman in Britain
If Salmonds and Sturgeons statements leak like a sieve, we listen to Scottish Labour, or Scottish Tories etc etc.. Then WE get the government WE want..
A vote for Independence is NOT a vote for an SNP government. A vote for the SNP party IS a vote for Independence. There is a difference..

The Gaelic term for a Saxon. Survives in modern day Ireland and Scotland as a derogatory term for an English person.
Don't start claiming to be a victim of 'racism' (impossible in this context) having used an almost identical type of term yourself.
Then, don't compound the idiocy by being constantly mightier-than-thou and patronising (eg; "Gotta say, the standards have REALLY slipped in here.....Can I verbally spar with a real adult please.....") but claiming to not know of any negative connotations attached to the word you used.
Honestly, that's just weak.

This is me, apart from not wanting to or believing I am an authority on Scotland, it's future and in fact, have never lived there. Wouldn't mind living there one day though, it's lovely.[/QUOTE]
My definition doesn't apply to you at all pal.
I don't hate on Scotland or the Scotch. My Scotch mother-in-law loves me very much.

A resounding YES.. I am at a loss to think what we lose out on.
Don't start claiming to be a victim of 'racism' (impossible in this context) having used an almost identical type of term yourself.

How is it impossible to be a victim of racism in this context? Sweaty has only one meaning in the context given... A negative and derogatory meaning.. I did not state there were no negative connotations of the word Sassenach, I simply gave the etymological root of the word, which is still a valid meaning.
This is me, apart from not wanting to or believing I am an authority on Scotland, it's future and in fact, have never lived there. Wouldn't mind living there one day though, it's lovely.
Couldnt agree more...

Or grown ups that can steer clear of the bottle before 5pm?
Just read the post before this.. Your M-I-L would probably prefer to be called Scottish, as there is no such word as Scotch in relation the people of Scotland. Are you Engch by any chance? Nope, didnt think so.. See what I did there? I applied logic..
Think you need to put the Scotch down until, at least, sun down..

Re: The Most Dangerous Woman in Britain
But anyway, it's basically irrelevant what one group calls another, because both do it. Neither will stop. So neither are better or worse off than the other.

My granny taught me to suck eggs long ago.
Another reason to let the Scots go, they don't go in for the self-depracating humour the rest of the UK is famous for(you remind me of my Saffer relatives in this respect). My list is growing all the time.
Next I will pick on horrible cuisine....
On a personal note I would like to thank you for bringing some balance back to the forum. Its been ages since we had a pompus nutter.
