Re: More of less racist
As an absolute though to discriminate against other human beings simply because of their racial characteristics is immoral. Race is something we cannot chose or change (Michael Jackson excluded!)
Culture can and does change, and only the very stupid follow cultural practice without question. Few Hindus will accept the burning of widows anymore, genital mutilation of baby boys is decreasing among secular Jews, not too many Europeans feel it's acceptable to beat a naughty child to unconsciousness yet that was pretty standard 70 or 80 years ago.
The only racial discrimination I would accept is people finding different races more attractive than others - that harms no one and we all have the right to choose our prospective mates.

Race v Culture.
Toughie.
I've always seen Race as something you can't change, culture as something applied to you by your surroundings.
eg; you may grow up Jewish but you don't HAVE to be Jewish.
eg; if you are black / white etc then you are that for life.
However, I agree with Millhouse that they are entwined to an almost unseparable extent...

You think that was racist? And surely your friend saw who was acting in it (unless this was the original BBC R4 show)?

Glad to see the conversation has now plummeted to my level.
Loved watching Goodness Gracious Me, The Real McCoy, but was brought up on watching stuff like Love Thy Neighbour, Mind Your Language, It Aint Half Hot Mum. Never really liked Til Death Do Us Part, just didn't think it was as funny as the others.
Remember a line from Mind Your Language - teacher sets an exercise for the class to use the word 'benign' in a sentence..... I'm sure you can guess the rest.

Re: More of less racist
the term "racial discrimination" shall mean any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin which has the purpose or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment or exercise, on an equal footing, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural or any other field of public life
And you're also free to impair his human rights in his private life.
Me? I'm not racist. I discriminate against; idiots; those who will either directly or indirectly, deliberately or otherwise, impair my life; and Chelsea supporters.

I discriminate and take the piss out of everyone equally. Or at least try.
