Mohammed Bin Rashid City
I've been hearing/reading about MBR city.
100 brand new hotels.
The world's biggest shopping mall.
Huge amounts of greenery, with more landscaped areas than Hyde Park.
1,500 luxury villas.
Universal Studios theme park.
Apparently it's going to be built in the stretch between Business Bay and Arabian Ranches.
What's the reality of this actually taking off?
Doesn't Dubai already have the world's biggest mall so what's the point of building something even bigger? And all that landscaping and artificial beaches for the inland lagoons - sheer wastage of resources. WTF? Aren't the powers that be learning from the mistakes from boom #1?

Old news, announced over a month ago. The difference is that it's by the deputy of the UAE and ruler of Dubai.

Yeah, but it's named after the Ruler - and it's being built by an Indian Company - so Dubai inc will have very little if any exposure to it.

There are big boards up along Al Khail Road with Mohamed Bin Rashid City written on them. Not sure if any building work is actually happening yet though.

It is on the land between business bay and Maydan, all cordoned off and from I saw the other day they have started building. There is also the new Ranches Casa development behind the Ranches, that is huge!! it's no point saying who is going to live there etc, we did that 8 years ago ...

I dread to think what will happen with an Indian Company taking the lead on this. Al Quouz meets Sharjah meets Burj Al Jinglie

Each villa would sell for Dh9 million and upwards, said P.N.C. Menon, Chairman of the Sobha Group.
Sobha and Meydan are allegedly a 50/50 partnership...

On a vaguely related theme, I read somewhere recently that Emaar Properties are likely to be fined mega bucks by the Indian government for allegedly buying thousands of acres of prime agricultural land in India for development without the necessary permission. Could be interesting, if true.

Re: Mohammed Bin Rashid City
This is the problem.
I have, unfortunately, dealt with Sobha.
In fact, they've built a few places in Business Bay (you'll see one by the exit for the back of BB on Al Khail). None look great.
Made worse by the fact they are a Developer / Contractor so will probably be looking to award themselves a lot of the work.
They are an utter shambles.
