Mirdiff mall
coming along nicely for those of us in Mirdiff
"New Mirdif mall 90% leased out, opens in 2010"
although the artists impression is bollocks as there isnt enough room between the front door and the road to build all that greenery
http://www.arabianbusiness.com/55208...-opens-in-2010
sweet
"Mirdif City Centre will also include dedicated community areas, medical clinics, spa, personal grooming facilities, fitness centre and more than 20,000 square metres of leisure concepts including a special children’s ‘edutainment’ centre, an indoor ‘iFly’ sky diving experience, a 12-lane bowling alley, and a 10 screen state-of-the-art multiplex cinema."

oh wow, that looks fab...would be nice if it actually turns out like that...
Festival City will be suffering for sure...god knows how all those shops will survive. Saw that a few shops in Uptown are closing now...

Bearing in Mind that Mirdiff City Centre is one of 3 large shopping areas set for completion by the end of 2010 and it is clear that the over supply for retail that is here already, will become severely exacerbated

Lots of retail groups are currently trying to either renegotiate rents or get out of their leases in various areas of Dubai, as lots have paid Bahnhofstrasse rents for what are pretty much rubbish shops.

Re: Mirdiff mall
Aside from 1 or 2 'destination malls' the rest have to consider themselves provincial shopping areas and have to set themselves up as such, with rents cheap enough that allow retailers with local requirements in mind to be able to base themselves there - the market just isn't big enough to sustain 7 or 8 huge shopping centres, as well as the 20 or so mini malls.
But hey, who ever said that any developer in Dubai had any brains, commercial acumen, or forward planning to speak of..
