Marriage vs. Expat life
I was just wondering how many marriages survived expat life?
Specifically referring to one spouse working abroad and the other one staying at home, whether it be male of female. And also if it didn't last what would be the reason for a second (3rd, 4th) marriage to an "international" partner rather than to a fellow countrymen/women. |

Re: Marriage vs. Expat life
Been working abroad for 7 years now, with 'er indoors at home in UK. Marriage has survived, but not sure whether that's because of or in spite of the separation.

Re: Marriage vs. Expat life
I've often thought becoming an expat (Dubai) as a couple was a relationship killer. I know loads who have moved out and then split while over here.

The whole time - every single mate - 'It won't last', 'bin it off', 'you'll split when she's here' etc etc etc. I didn't listen obviously, but saw lots of it happening. Fortunately, she's stuck with me (how could she not)....5 years later, still here, still happy, still not married. Now you know someone who hasn't split. |
Re: Marriage vs. Expat life
My wife and I had been married a couple of months when I came over here. She stayed in the UK for 4-5 months to sell the house and finish up at work before coming over here. 6 and a bit years and 2 kids later, still here still happily married.

Most people I know have been just fine and being expats has been beneficial as they have had joint experiences. The OP's query is a bit odd as it seems to assume that only one party is overseas and the other is in the UK. That set up is a minority. |

I'd guess that they either had issues before they moved here and any stresses widened the cracks rather than bringing them closer, or one party fell for the "Dubai lifestyle" nonsense.

Do you really have to be so crass all the time? I can see why they kicked you off the other forum.

Not all wives and children go back to a home country all summer. In fact few disappear for months on end, especially as many wives actually work!
