There are spoiler tags to post spoilers in a thread, but people can avoid those threads.

Not when you post the result in the title!

Plenty of folks around the world record events for later viewing, you just don't ever post the result as a thread title.

Crap off

if you don't want to find out about something that's happened in the recent past be it sport, soaps, current affairs or anything else don't go on internet chat forums/twitter etc as new stuff does tend to be discussed...

Gadaffi's dead you say...I'd sky plussed last Thursday's news to watch when I had a minute. Thanks BE you've ruined it for me

I'm with saudiflares, if I don't want to see a result, I just don't go online or listen to the radio, no point throwing a paddy about it.

It's not as though every match score is announced here every weekend, it was a big derby match between #1 and 2 in the PL, and a shocking result, so someone was bound to post the score...

I definitely wouldn't go trawling through the Middle East part of BE looking for football scores if I lived in Spain

He probably wasn't, you can view "Today's Posts" and see all the BE forum's threads in one hit.

The result was in the thread title.

People browse the forum by looking at recent posts, it'll come up.

You just don't put results in the thread title on forums, especially ones where folks will be all over the world.

Yeah, but if it were posted in a thread, you could easily avoid it, just like it's easy to avoid reading FB if you have friends who'll likely post results, or twitter etc...if it's posted in the title of a thread though, and you go to the home page and it was the last post, it'll appear, it'll also appear when you hit the recent posts link.

Bit harder to avoid that way, and why should someone avoid the site entirely just because someone else is being selfish?

It's simple forum etiquette, BE isn't any special there.

No, it's how a lot of people browse the forum when they want to see recent posts rather than going to a specific area of the forum.

I can never avoid the live scores. Last week, just as I was sitting down to watch a crucial match my mother in law calls- no danger there so I picked it up and she starts talking about the match, no doubt because she doesn't know else to talk about with me. I said "STOP! I'm just sitting down to watch it" and she says "oh they better win this thing!". I knew it was just about over so right then I knew whatever happens it's going to be tied near the end. After hanging up I fast forwarded to the end and watched the last 5 minutes..All day I was avoiding people, places, and letting the phone go to voice mail and she ruins it with one ill timed phone call.

I'm not going to say she did it on purpose, but she definitely did it on purpose. She swore to my wife that she never gave me the score and that's probably true, but she gave me a big clue and just by the tone of her voice I knew the outcome was in serious jeopardy

It doesn`t take a lot of intelligence to think that someone may of recorded it and may not want to see the score, you could of at least not put it in the title.:curse:

It's pathetic.

If you are going to moan about seeing the score somewhere then become a hermit for the day.

Regardless of if it's in the title, in a thread, over text, on the news, on BBC sport, you can avoid it if you want to.

Just don't moan about it. Find something else to make your life that little bit more exciting than watching a repeat of a match and not knowing the score.

Jeeeeeeeeeesus.

omg....a simple apology and it won't happen again would be the usual response for being a bit of a knob, rather than dragging it out, kicking and screaming, especially when one wouldn't expect a result in a thread title.

Not my thread mate, nothing to apologise for...don't understand the issue - if you don't want to see a result, don't look, definitely don't moan like a bunch of ****ing queers. It's a game of football.

I didn't say you'd need to appologise...but it still stands, only a numpty posts a result in the thread title, where someone can't avoid seeing it unless they spend a day in a black hole, which is daft...when everyone else seems to understand this simple principle.

And I didn't even give a shit about the result, I already knew it and don't even care about either team. Still annoying when some spanner posts a spoiler in the thread title.

It seems to me (Bob) that you are the knob (or would you prefer numpty) for making such a drama out of a little indiscretion. As Scamp rightly says, he wasn't the instigator of the post. It was me and quite frankly I found your reaction embarrassing to say the least. If it had been simply 3-1 then I wouldn't have bothered but six, come on. Be a man about it. If you had supported a football team all your life and watched them play at the likes of York, Halifax and Gillingham not so long ago, wouldn't you let your hair down just a little after a result like that? No, don't answer that.

OMG, seriously, you posted a spoiler on the thread title, a simple apology is a simple thing to do for not thinking of others.

It's just as simple as that, anyone that does it gets the same thing, regardless of the result or the sport.

BE isn't a special little snow flake in this regard. It's also not a very hard concept to grasp, more so for a site with an international following of posters.

Re: Man United v Man City

It is simple, keep the spoiler out of the title, simple universal forum etiquette. I am amazed this is contentious.

Thanks Bob, for trying to keep it as an expectation.
