Maldives
Afternoon BE's,
Planning on a trip to Maldives with the Mrs in April, little Easter treat for us.
Any recommendations on islands? Hotels? Expectations?
Not started looking at all yet, so research starts today and pointers very much welcome.
Let's not forget though, I'm not made of money and I'm not proposing so it doesn't need to be a Banyan Tree or something equally wallet-busting.

OK, so this is awkward.
I mean Mauritius, not Maldives.

What I think you should do:
If a girlfriend of mine booked me a holiday 7 months from now, I don't think I would respond well to that idea.
- Map (or list of destinations) and dartboard to pick destination.
- Book return flights and the first hotel night wherever it lands.
- Go

Part of the reason it's preferred to be Mauritius is that my old dear will be there at the same time, two birds with one stone and maybe a free dinner.
If it's crap then I'll pie off the pensioner and take my good lady someplace else.

Re: Maldives
I've been to Mauritius many times, all work trips, so haven't really done any 'holidaying' activities.
From memory I've stayed in the following hotels:
Some sh1thole in Port Louis.
Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel - Business hotel in Port Louis - nice, clean, not really a 'holiday' hotel.
Long Beach (formally Le Coco beach) - on the beach, nice, clean, resort based with evening entertainment. A marked improvement from when it was Le Coco.
Blue Lagoon - cheap (probably, I didn't pay), clean, on the beach - not far from the airport, think Mirdif by the sea - only a handful of planes each day.
I'd try and stay at a resort hotel that provides entertainment as the place is 'dead' by 9:30 to 10pm each night!
Personally I'd hire a car, gives you chance to explore.
If I can help with any questions just ask.

I've got to do some research tonight so at least I can use those hotels as markers
