Re: Lunchtime Poll - ever seen Heathers?
Heathers was one of a brace of classic 80's movies along with The Breakfast Club, Weekend At Bernies, Pretty In Pink and the best Ferris Buller's Day Off...
In Heathers there was a "Lunchtime Poll" that was a random question that was posed to see various responses.... I thought I'd see what happened if we revived this "lunchtime poll" (I know it's not lunchtime - so eat me*(in the 80's this had a different meaning I think):
So - answer todays lunchtime poll:
"How would your views about war, politics and the role of the military change if all future conflicts were fought by armies of robots (that is to say, if all nations agreed to conduct wars exclusively with machines so that human casualties would be virtually non-existent)?"

As to the question: Unmanned Vehicles (UV's) are already in deployment in land, sea and air. Significant amounts of research funding are being deployed in further development to the level of sophistication where unmanned combat scenarios would be entirely feasible in a theatre of war. Overwhelming technological superiority in weapons technology enables the United States to succeed in winning battles already; what it does not do is enable an army to police and control a hostile occupied nation.
Unmanned combat vehicles would not be an aid to "winning the peace" - what good would they be in Iraq?
Like the question, tho....
