Default Long way off zero road deaths by 2020

The head of Dubai Traffic Police has conceded the force is a long way off its target of zero deaths by 2020, as the number of people killed on emirate’s roads so far this year has almost doubled compared with the same period for 2012.
General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen said there were 101 fatalities on the highways during the first seven months of 2013, against 55 last year. He said: “This figure is shocking. It goes against our strategy of reducing the number of deaths to zero by 2020. The number had been decreasing since 2008.”

How did they ever think they'd reduce the number when there is zero on an awareness campaign, zero traffic education i.e. posters, videos, adverts and zero police presence apart from speed cameras?

Dash-cams and a site where you can upload the videos without worrying about the consequences, no blurred out number plates or faces.

The cultural shift needed for this to happen is so large as to be impossible.

Nice idea

No ****ing chance

They could start with banning locals from the roads..... that would drop the number significantly.

Weirdly enough, Pakistanis and Indians kill the most, so should we ban them too?

Not really that weird when you consider the population percentages. However, should we ban them.... **** it, why not!

Although they are allowed on mopeds/bikes to make deliveries.

They tend to fall into 3 categories:

Arrogant, look-at-me-I'm-an-executive-without-a-briefcase-that's-bigger-than-me middle managers who believe they're kings of the road in their Prados

Pushy mothers, wives of the above.

The rest who believe that driving on big roads among fast cars is no different from mixing it with tak-taks and whole families on 50cc Hondas in Calcutta.

Three distinct categories there which cannot be disagreed with.

My favourite SZR move is the flashy lights, on the bumper, get out the ****ing way presence....when there's traffic all moving at 100 and nobody can actually go faster. I like that a lot. This normally results in a 10-second windscreen wash to cover their shiny G-Wagon.

Apart from the tailgaters who seem to think my car can levitate, my pet hate is the driver who pootles along in the middle lanes of SZR at 80kph totally oblivious to the fact they are in the wrong lane. Usually a crappy Sunny type saloon. I'm not mentioning race, but no need really.

Oooh good one.

If lane 1 is the slowest out to lane 6 being the fastest then anyone in 3,4 or 5 doing anything below 100 (traffic permitting) should be banned.

Surely all it needs is a website hosted outside the GCC, and for people to post stuff anonymously. And then for someone to feed the stuff to the police and press frequently--surely they'd have to sit up, notice and take action at some point.
