The Police and most of all the Met needs a radical overhaul as it's basically not up to the job .

They will just debate the issue and call each other names until it dies down.

I'm all for a revolution, but you leave the monarchy alone.

And from the Mash:

The complete craziness of this situation is that actually the UK needs industry, one of the reasons for the deficit is that they are net consumers (like the U.S., Spain, Greece etc.) rather than balancing their trade. So we have all this labor being used ineffectively (and you know what they say about idle hands)…there must be some way to put these things together. People with jobs, houses and cars don’t riot because they have too much to lose. Capitalism is an effective means of social control but you can’t simply ignore one part of society.
Accumulate to this the UK population age demographics and it becomes clear the UK is actually setting itself up for a difficult future.
Seismologists reported a sudden lurch to the right as people who own tagines found themselves calling for the immediate deployment of the Parachute Regiment and a couple of RAF Tornadoes.

Re: London riots
What makes the monarchy immune to the will of the people?
If the people don't want them anymore (and I mean the people, not a bunch of violent protestants like Cromwell's mob) then they have to step down or face the consequences of declaring themselves above democracy.
As it stands every poll shows over 50% in Britain still want them (it is declining though) so I'll respect that and limit my anti-monarchy views to peaceful rants online
My revolution would be limited to the government until referendums on all major issues were held.

This all boils down to idle hands...yet government after government has done little to help ensure most people have some sort of work and responsibility.

Re: London riots
How strange that our African & Eastern European comrades all managed to and continue to manage to find work, some of them hardly even speaking the language, the minute they set foot in this country while these youngsters don't and wouldn't stand a chance if they even bothered.

Isn't Capitalism and Globalisation to blame for the recession in the first place?(well and greedy bankers)
What you need is community spirit which is not made by blue chip companies. What you need is support for independants- who put the money they make back into the community, employ locally, and encourage growth and production within the UK. People need to get used to the idea that the throw away culture is not sustainable. If people were prepared to pay a bit more for products it could be produced in the UK which would provide the desperately needed jobs.
I believe all UK companies should be forced to produce a certain ammount of product within the UK, the cost should then be balanced with product produced abroad so as not to put prices entirely through the roof. So kind of like an import tax. Also companies with more than say 5 retail outlets should only be allowed to expand through franchising to ensure that local business maintain a certain ammount of the profits and support local community.
Personally I think individuals should be given help (freeze interest on credit cards and loans) to get out of the debt they are in (which is impossible to do whilst living in the UK) and should be pushed to have a bank balance that is in the black rather than encouraging credit card spending. Bring back HP. Spending patterns are unsustainable and there is a whole generation that do not understad the concept of paying with actual money that comes from your bank account. Taking the pressure of struggling households would make a massive ammount of difference to how people are currently feeling, rather than dealing with peopel filing for bankruptcy why not help people before they get to the point of desperation. We've bailed out enough banks- why not help the peope.

Re: London riots
Insurance companies (surprise surprise) are saying they won't pay out because it's a riot and the gov should pay. The gov won't class it as a riot to avoid paying so folks could actually be left with nothing at all.

Re: London riots
When this economic strategy is implemented when you are Queen, Miss Kitty, it means that the cost of goods and services in the UK would become so expensive that it would cripple its own good intentions.
Without capitalism or globalism, we'd all be living in much more reduced state with a much lower level of comfort or prosperity. Many of your suggestions are similar to what was practised in the Soviet Union - and the typical Russian worker had a much lower standard of living compared to his counterpart in a standard Western country.
What has globalisation meant? It means the cost of goods and services are far cheaper than they were ten or twenty years ago. Clothing, food, electronics, all the goods so beloved of rioters, are far cheaper than they were for our grandparents. We may not have the factories we once did, but our lives are certainly much more comfortable than the lives lived by our grandparents who worked in those factories. Our subsidised UK unemployed youth lives a much better lifestyle than a chinese factory worker making cheap shoes or fake football shirts.
Yes, there are tradeoffs. The economic model has changed. We don't have the industrial base we once did. Then again, we don't have the agricultural base we once did and there were plenty of people who lamented the decline of agrarian Britain and shifting of the population to the nasty, dirty, oppressive mill towns.
Who knows what the future may bring to us, but I'd be cautious at wanting a return to some old economic model that's now long obsolete and can only be held on to at an enormous economic and political cost.

It's obvious though, they feel they are owed something by the world..so they have organized themselves via their blackberries to get their full HD set up. I mean, it's just fair right?
